19 Days before Giving Up

Feeling miserable that you seem to be the only one to fail repeatedly when attempting a diet plan to reduce weight? Don’t be disappointed. A recent study by Engage Mutual Assurance shows that a typical woman can’t resist the temptations for fatty foods, when on a diet, for three weeks at a stretch. The study also found that on an average, women go on a low-calorie diet thrice a year only to resist common temptations like chocolate, wine and chips for 19 days average. 58% of women quizzed were of the opinion that chocolates are the chief temptations for them.

The researchers also studied the expenditure a typical woman does on these failed attempts. On an average, on each attempt a dieting lady shells out ₤161.75. These include the costs for gyms, slimming clubs, accessories, clothes and fitness magazines. Going by the figures we can believe that a British woman spends about ₤25k on weight-shedding programs in her lifetime.

Fitness magazines or books cost about ₤6.06 whereas ₤18.98 goes towards the expenses on setting up fitness equipments for working out at home. Gym memberships cost ₤18.90 on an average and slimming clubs on an average charge ₤10.86.

A major portion of the budget is spent on clothing and buying trainers meant especially for workout. These account for an average cost of ₤36.38.

The most important part of a slimming plan involves a change in the diet and hence the surveyed women were found to be spending ₤43.16 on food which included ₤27.41 towards slimming products of various brands.

Another interesting fact revealed by the research is that five hours starting from 15:00 to 20:00 each day are the most critical ones for dieting women when the cravings are at the peak.

The spokeswoman for Engage Mutual Assurance, Tina Clare expressed her views as “Women tend to go all out in a bid to shed pounds. But sticking to a restricted diet for any length of time is difficult, which is why it is better to introduce a more realistic routine involving regular exercise and healthy eating.” She is of the opinion that at some point almost everyone is bound to give up to temptations but a good and balanced diet combined with regular workout can be a good booster for those looking for a healthier lifestyle.
