Just like their owners, dogs are also affected by illness and health issues. There are many reasons which can cause the dog discomfort which can include unhealthy lifestyle, stress, poor nutrition and pollution which can result in dog illness.
Other reasons can include reduction in the exercise, exposure to harmful climatic elements and weather changes. Some of the common illnesses seen in pets include physical ailments like thyroid dysfunction, obesity, skin disorders, liver and kidney disease, cystitis, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, arthritis, diabetes and psychological and emotional issues like anxiety and depression. After all, the dog is also a walking, eating and barking living being and is affected by the environment of the family.
There are ways in which these illnesses can be cured. The first is to use all sort of preventive vaccinations and medications on the dog to avoid the issue altogether.
The second and most important is to have knowledge regarding symptoms of various dog illnesses.
This way, the owner can help the dog to deal with the appropriate changes made in their diet, environment and lifestyle. Following are some of the illnesses and their symptoms:
- Arthritis or inflammation of the joint strikes almost 20% of all dogs. It can be due to toxic substances in the body or poor nutrition. The major symptoms include sensitive to touch, reluctance to move, stiffness, lameness and difficulty in going up or down the stairs.
- Diabetes occurs when the dog overeats and becomes obese. Some of the common symptoms include appetite changes, cataracts, lethargy, general weakness, weight loss and excessive thirst. It can be avoided by making the dog exercise regularly, giving it home cooked food, raw food, maintaining a stable weight and making it eat fruits and vegetables.
- The infection of bladder is another common dog illness. These are very common in dogs aged a couple of months and is even seen between the age of 2-10. Its symptoms include frequent urination, listlessness and loss in appetite. This problem can occur due to stale food, environmental issue or serious reasons like bladder stones or tumor.
