How to Overcome the Fear of Needles

How to Overcome the Fear of NeedlesThere is nothing in a needle shot to develop a phobia for them. But one can see many people who feel dizzy at the sight of syringe or the thought of a needle can curl their toes. Sure, the needle shots could be scary, but this fear of syringes can be cured by taking care of following points.

  • One need not make a big deal out of just a needle shot. Instead of worrying and stressing about the pain that is going to happen, the size of the needle or the time of the shot one can distract him/her self by thinking about grocery shopping, exam tests, a cake or even count dogs. The worry and stress can make that needle shot that more uncomfortable.
  • Avoid looking at the part or imagining about it. In the stress, fidgeting and moving can cause more damage rather than curing it. You can even ask the shot taker/nurse to just go for the shot and not give in to your cries or yelps. As their sympathy gives you more time to brood over the experience of the shot.
  • Remember to try to relax during the shot time. Many psychological things can help like counting, reciting the alphabet backwards (z to a), and the fact to be always considered is that this syringe shot is not going to hurt you; it is just going to make you better.
  • One can request for the best needle holder in the clinic. One can even bring a friend or even ask nurses to hold your hand. There is nothing embarrassing in that as the nurses in any medical house have been asked for worse.
  • Please note that many people put their body through physical pain by pricking themselves with safety pin or getting their ears pierced. It is not forbidden, but the person considering it should always use sterilized safety pin or heat it on fire.
  • Coaches or psychiatrists can also be consulted with if people show enetophobia (fear of needles). This problem’s symptoms include throwing up, fainting or even getting dizzy.
