How to get rid of mosquito bite with remedies and treatment

Make sure that itching will persist until the bite gets healed completely. The itching occurs due to the mosquito’s saliva, which is an anticoagulant. Hence, a histamine response is initiated, thereby causing itching. In people having hypersensitive skin to mosquito bites, the healing time may be prolonged.

Mosquito bites become irritable, annoying and become big red welts with itching and infection if not treated well. You will know how to get rid of these bug (mosquito) bites, and treat it easily by following these remedies and precautions :

Instructions

Step 1

As soon as you identify that you have been bitten by mosquitoes, wash the infected area with soap and water. Keep the site dry and clean until the irritation and itching stops.

Step 2

As you already know that mosquito bite may itch for few days, so continual scratching will increase your irritation and may prolong the infection and itching.

Step 3

Rub soap directly on the mosquito bite, and this is one of the most frequently followed home remedies.

Step 4

Take water and baking soda, make a paste by mixing them and spread this mixture on the bite. Take required amount of water to make sure that the paste is sticky. This is an excellent treatment for those individuals with sensitive skin and also for small children as the ingredients are mild and doesn’t cause irritation.

Step 5

Take an ice pack or a cloth wrapped with ice and apply on the bitten area. Use aloe vera to get rid of itching and swelling. Another advantage is that it forms a protective later in preventing further infections.

Step 6

Peel a banana and use the inside part of the skin to rub the site of mosquito bite , and wash after one and half hour, which is also a most commonly followed home remedy. A sap of onion can also be tried.

Step 7

Use tropical anesthetic containing pramoxine or calamine solution to get relieved from the itching and pain.

Step 8

Use anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen and ibuprofen to decrease the redness and swelling. In  severe cases, an antihistamine Benedryl can be taken. But, if the topical treatments couldn’t treat the mosquito bite, and the kin around the bite area becomes warm, swollen and red, then, there is a possibility that the bite must have become infected. In such cases, a medical practitioner should be consulted.

Step 9

Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and place it over the mosquito bite. This will terminate the pain.

Step 10

Dip a piece of cloth in warm water and press that cloth on the bite, and hold it until a tingling sensation is felt. Repeat once or twice and the itching will surely vanish in no time, as the heat releases all the histamine from the skin surrounding the bite, which is responsible for initiating the immune responses like itching and irritation.

Step 11

Apply mud on the bite area; this provides a cooling effect, and temporarily relieves the itching.

Step 12

Apply lavender oil directly to the bite area to get relief from itching quickly.

Mosquito bite warnings

  • Make sure that you don’t rub your skin, pat dry instead of rubbing and avoid scrubbing too.
  • Try patting in case feel like scratching, as patting stimulates the same nerves without any damage to the skin.
  • Do not pick the heads off the bites, as there are chances that it may get infected.
  • Never try mixing ammonia with bleach, as it causes a chemical reaction producing fatal gas.
  • If itching is not stopping and the sores are also not healing, then consult a doctor immediately.
