Just like human beings, cats also get days when they might be lethargic or feel general malaise. However, if they start showing more illness signs, then there can be a problem with their health.
The illness symptoms for cats include weight loss, appetite loss, runny eyes, coughing, sneezing, excess drinking, lethargy, diarrhea, sickness and high temperature. There are various diseases which can occur in felines. Some of those are mentioned in the following lines:
- Cat viral rhinotracheitis or feline flu is a certain viral infection which occurs in their respiratory tract. This problem is very contagious amongst cats. The symptoms include runny eyes, having no desire to eat, high temperature, coughing and sneezing. The best treatment is common nursing however, antibiotics are seen to help. The cats should be vaccinated against this problem as this can result in them having useless or damaged eye.
- The leukemia in cats is more likely to be very deadly. It is similar to leukemia in humans and is generalized as blood cancer. The illness symptoms include respiratory difficulties, anemia, sickness and high temperature.
- Another virus which is very contagious amongst felines is the cat infectious enteritis. Its symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and is several times followed by depression. A readily available vaccination for this disease is available and should be used. There are European catteries which don’t accept cats which haven’t been immunized against cat enteritis and flu.
- Another illness symptom is excessive drinking which can depict one of two serious conditions. It can be a sign of kidney failure which cannot be treated or it can indicate diabetes which could be cured. It can also depict an infection of the urinary tract if drinking is combined with blood in urine and/or high temperature.
- Excessive eating and weight loss might be an indication that the feline has worms. Looking at the stool can tell the problem. However, worming tablets can be administered to fix the worm issue. However, continuous persistence of symptoms can indicate something serious.
