Suffering from an eye infection can be problematic for anyone. If an individual suffers from an eye problem, then he/she should use efficient methods to treat the problem.
If the actions are taken sooner, then the problem would be relieved faster and avoiding the issue might result in further complications. Following are some tips which can be used to treat eye infections at home:
- Firstly, the hands should be frequently washed with soap carefully as one might accidentally touch the eyes with hands and dirt on fingers can complicate the infection. The first phase of eye infection cure involves cleaning.
The eyes should be cleansed carefully by using a cotton swab mixed with distilled water. However, one should make sure that a single swab isn’t used for both the eyes. This cleaning part should be done preferably every hour as it can relieve the symptoms of pain and inflammation.
- The second phase of treatment involves usage of cold compress. Some ice cubes should be put in a clean cloth or handkerchief. This cloth should be then used on the eyes. Another method is to use a clean cloth dipped in cold water and then it should be used as an eye compressor. The cold cloth shouldn’t be pressed for a long time as the cold water can damage the skin around the eyes. It should be put or several seconds followed by a break of some seconds.
- The third phase of eye infection therapy involves herbal treatment. Tea bags can be used to relieve the inflammation which would also relax the muscles around the eye. A tea bag has to be immersed in hot water for few minutes and then it should be put on closed eyes. Inflammation and irritation can be immediately reduced by washing the eye area with aloe vera gel. Alternate method includes ripping the plant leaf and then dropping the gel on eyes.
The aforementioned treatment can effectively reduce eye infection symptoms in few days. If the problem continues, then medical care should be sought from an optometrist.
