What is Vyvanse?
Vyvanse (Lisdexampehtamine) is a medication newly developed by the Shire PLC company. It a drug for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder or commonly known as ADHD. ADHD is usually seen and observed among children between ages 6-12 years old but it can also be observe with some adults.
Vyvanse drug is a pyschostimulant of the central nervous system. It is used on combination with other treatment programs for ADHD such as educational, social therapy and psychological therapy.
Vyvanse has an active substance called Lisdexampethamine. It is prescribed for patients with ADHD. Physician’s prescribes the medication to be taken in the morning since it can cause sleep problems if taken in the evening. Its peak effectiveness usually lasts for 1-4hours but it has been observed through clinical trials that the effects on the symptoms last for 12 hours.

Vyvanse drug is a prodrug (inert until it has been digested). The drug is only a stimulant until the substance is broken down by the stomach.
Vyvanse medications come in different dosage and appearance in a capsule form. The Vyvanse dosage comes in a form of 30 capsules and each of the capsules contains labels of the dose to be taken daily. However, your physician will change the dose occasionally to get the best result for the condition.
The appearance of each capsule depends on its strength are as follows:
- 20mg- ivory colored body capsule and cap
- 30 mg- white colored body capsule with a cap colored orange
- 40mg- white colored body capsule with a cap colored teal
- 50mg- white colored body capsule with a cap colored blue
- 60mg- aqua blue colored body capsule and cap
- 70mg- blue colored body capsule with a cap colored orange
FDA labeled Vyvanse drug as pregnancy category C. It has not been studied to harm an unborn child. However, it can lead to low birth weight, withdrawal symptoms and premature birth. The same drug can pass into breastmilk and can cause harm to the baby. Therefore, if you are pregnant or probably planning to get pregnant, it is best to inform your physician before continuing to take the medication.
Vyvanse medication should be taken as prescribed and as recommended by the physician. It should not be taken together with any fruit juice or vitamin C as this can make the body absorb less.
Vyvanse vs Adderall
Both Vyvanse and Adderall are developed by Shire PLC. But Vyvanse is the new medication developed for ADHD and thus replaces Adderall which is also a medication for the same condition.
Comparing both drugs can be hard since both of them are ampethamines. If your doctor advised you to take Vyvanse rather than Adderall, don’t take it the wrong way that Vyvanse is better than Adderall.
Vyvanse is totally composed of d-ampethamines while on the other hand, Adderall is a combination of different d (dextroamphetamine) and l (levo)-ampethamines thus the mixture can have a stronger and even effective for the individual with ADHD, it might cause more side effects.
Vyvanse is released through digestion making it to last even longer, smoother and even less variability as compared to Adderall which is released via bead teachnology.
Vyvanse side effects
Every individual responds to a medication differently, which means that an individual doesn’t experience side effects with Vyvanse while others can have numerous side effects.

Vyvanse has lesser side effects since it contains pure d-ampethamine. The common side effects of Vyvanse are:

- Loss of appetite

While there may be common side effects, there may also be severe life-threatening effects that occur infrequently of a drug such as anaphylaxis, changes in vision, fever, syncope, angina, severe headache, and seizures.
