One major complication of diabetes is chronic kidney disease. Usually, it is ignored easily as the body seems fine and is working well. But, the extra glucose can destroy the body and is a major risk to kidneys and other major organs. Kidneys work as the body’s filter machine and get rid of all the waste and toxic products that are brought in the body or is made through natural processes.

Due to this reason, it might take a lot of time for the blockage symptoms to show themselves. If this system gets damaged then the blood vessels of the kidney are unable to filter the waste. Because of the blockage, several nutrients are lost in the urine and impurities remain in the blood.

Chronic Kidney Disease

As aforementioned, the early stage of the problem shows very few signs. These can include building up of fluids, sleeplessness, fatigue, weakness and vomiting and it is crucial to treat the problem at this stage to avoid any further complication.

However, once major damage has been done, the symptoms become more pronounced and can include weakness, vomiting, metallic taste in mouth, poor or reduced appetite, shortness in breath, high blood pressure, swelling of feet, ankles and hands and experiencing difficult while concentrating or feeling confusion.

There are steps which can be taken to prevent or cure prevent chronic kidney disease. One of the major steps which can be taken to prevent kidney disorder is to keep the body’s blood sugar in control. Studies have stated that keeping the glucose levels under controls can reduce the risks of the disease by 40 – 60 percent.

Another prevention method involves controlling the blood pressure. High B.P. can damage kidney capillaries and they would be unable to do their work correctly. Controlling the blood pressure requires less consumption of salt and maintaining a healthy weight.

When diagnosed in an earlier stage, the treatment involves controlling the blood pressure and glucose levels. The doctor might also prescribe medications which can lower the glucose level/blood pressure level. Advanced chronic disease cases can be treated by dialysis of blood.
