Constipation is one of the most irritating and painful ailments and everyone suffers from it once in a while. There are several causes of constipation which can include medications, foods and even lack of fiber in the diet. The necessity of fiber is stressed time and again for regular and normal bowel movements but everyone isn’t able to consume it every day. It can be treated by prescribed and over the counter medications but there are also natural home remedies which can be used to treat constipation. Some of these are listed in the following lines:
- Plenty of water should be drunk by the sufferer along with prune juice and pulp. When the problem is diagnosed, one glass of juice should be drunk every day (preferably in the morning) and when constipation has subsided, the glasses should be cut down to once in a week. One can also go for apricots (these can be eaten instead of drinking the juice) if he/she doesn’t like prunes.
- A solution of flax seed should be made by stirring the grounded seeds in water for 15-20 minutes. Then this liquid should be cooled and then strained. This solution has to be refrigerated as ground flaxseed can quickly go bad. This has to be consumed everyday with juice or water. Individuals who frequently complain of constipation should keep enough flax in their refrigerator. If one feels that refrigerating flax is tiring, then they can instead sprinkle the grounded flaxseed on their breakfast.
- One of the best home remedies is to eat 20-30 pieces of candy (sugar free) every day. However, one shouldn’t eat too much of it as it can cause diarrhea. Proper consumption can help one to have regular bowel movements and ease the constipation. One can also go for sugar free gum but candy works much better than it.
