Nail fungus is made up of very tiny organisms which are big nuisance to finger nails and toe nails. Fungal infections vary in nature. Some cause the nails to soften while others cause them to thicken. Discoloration of the nails is another commonly known problem. Do not confuse nail fungus to athlete’s foot which is an altogether different syndrome. It usually occurs just beneath the nail and is very difficult to cure. Wearing tight shoes leave no air for the toe nails to breathe which is why toe nails are easily infected by these fungi. Since the fungus likes dark and moist place the toe nails are perfect since a lot of sweat gets collected around it.
Acrylic nails in a way facilitate this fungus to grow quite similar in the manner wearing tight shoes does. Since fungus can only grow and survive on other living organisms, it does not live on the acrylic nails. But the acrylic nail provides the suitable conditions of warmth that the fungi need to settle down on finger nails. The acrylic nails cannot grow fungi but at the same time are also responsible for providing them with the necessary conditions to survive on. The problem with nail fungus is that it will not detach itself from the nails once the acrylic nails have been removed. Once the fungi have found the favorable conditions, it adapts the change in condition brought by the removal of acrylic nails.
Acrylic nail fungi are not easy to remove but can be done efficiently with the help of proper prescription drugs. Approach the doctor with the medical know how and get the right treatment rather than trying out home remedy since you are fighting against a fungus and not bacteria. Home remedies will not be of much help. Oral medications derived from plants which are said to have antifungal properties are being used widely. Tea tree oil is considered to be the most effective nail fungus medicine available especially from the tea trees found in Australia. Other forms of treatment include solutions being applied to nails to destroy the fungus.
