What is lip twitching?
Lip twitching, is a problem in which a person faces involuntary lip movement or to be precise twitching of lips. The sudden and irregular muscle contraction is the main cause of it; however the reasons for such contractions may be different.
Generally such twitching occurs and disappears within a fraction of seconds. However when noticeable, it causes a lot of anxiety to the person suffering from it. Apart from sudden irregular contractions, other causes of lip twitching are irritation or injury of the nerve connected to the lip muscle, spasms or tremors.

Research also shows that other common things which may cause lip twitching are stress, anxiety, fatigue, extreme emotions, excess of caffeine, dehydration or deficiency of potassium and magnesium. Any twitching in the lips caused by these common reasons should not be a matter of much concern. However, if one is suffering from persistent lip twitching, immediately doctor’s help must be taken to detect other disorder causing such twitching.
Causes and reasons of lip twitching
The causes of lip twitching are often same of that of twitching in other parts of the body such as calves, eyelids, nose etc.; which is termed as fasciculation. To treat fasciculation doctors often suggest a small operation wherein Teflon padding is put between the artery and nerves. In certain cases of spasms, BoTox is also suggested.
Treatment and management for lip twitching
One must not get agitated with lip twitching or any kind of twitching in one’s body. Try to relax yourself and divert your mind from the problem which is worrying you at that moment. Take help of your friends and relatives with whom you can share your troubles. If you come across people who is facing such a problem, avoid making them feel more miserable about the problem, rather try to calm them down.
