Larynx or the vocal cords get affected the most. Laryngitis is in fact inflammation of the vocal chords. The person loses his voice partially or in major cases fully. This loss of voice is called laryngitis in medical terms. He experiences difficulty in swallowing even his saliva.

The person suffering from laryngitis gets a sore throat, feels hoarseness in the throat and that there’s a lump in the throat. Dry cough and fever follow as a result. Fortunately, Laryngitis is completely curable and one should not wait in getting Laryngitis treatment.

Speaking for longer periods of time in case of cheering, screaming, public speaking, or yelling, strains the vocal chords excessively to cause laryngitis. Inhaling smoke from cigarettes or toxic chemicals may result into the irritation of the mucous membranes of the vocal chords.

Persistent hoarseness and coughing may be a sign of the cancer of the larynx.  A doctor must be immediately consulted and a patient should take Laryngitis treatment. Treating the disease isn’t much of a headache. Throat samples are collected or even blood sample in order to find out the exact cause of it. Even X-rays might be needed. Antibiotics are prescribed to the patient for a cure.

If it’s a bacterial infection the condition may last for 10 to 15 days. In case viral infection in the larynx, plenty of fluids must be taken in order to keep the throat humid. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are the pain killers that are prescribed by the doctor as Laryngitis treatment for a relief in the throat.

Avoid speaking in public as far as the Laryngitis treatment and recovery is undergoing. Steam must be inhaled at regular intervals. Drinking alcohol should be strictly; even smoking for that matter. Laryngitis is however a minor illness. It clears itself within a limited period of time.
