There are many ways to check out whether a pineapple is ripped or not such as smelling, touching, physical examination etc. One should not take
unripe pineapples as they are not palatable and only ripe pineapples are sweet in taste. Follow the simple tips to make sure that you buy the ripe pineapple:
- Pineapple that passes its prime has watery eyes
- One can make out if the pineapple is ripped or not by its color; ripe ones are usually golden yellow
- From the smell also one can find ripe pineapples; the un-ripe pineapples have no smell they are odorless, whereas ripe ones smell sweet
- One should avoid over ripen pineapples as it creates food poisoning. The smell of the over fermented pineapple would be like vinegar
- One can make out over ripen pineapple by touching it’s skin; as the pineapple ages it becomes soft and the color of this fruit changes to the golden reddish one
- Pineapples stop ripening when they are picked the sweetness of the pineapple depends upon its stem as it supplies sweetness to these fruit. Before purchasing the pineapple one should keep in their mind and see how fresh they are
- To get a fresh pineapple, make sure it has a firm, bright and hard shell with uniformity in color.
- As pineapple is an exotic tropical fruit one should smell at the bottom of it whether aroma is present or not before purchasing
- Some people believe that if they remove the leaves from the pineapple it will ripe but this is not a proven fact yet
- A hint of yellow at the base of the pineapple indicates that the flavor would be sweet
- Another way of checking the ripeness is by tugging its leaf; if it is fairly tugged than we can say that the pineapple is ripe.
