What is Fasting? Fasting is basically the will of a person to abstain from some or probably all food or liquid and can even both either for a short period of time or for long term.

There are many reasons why a person engaged into fasting. It can be for reasons such as healing purposes, ‘detoxification’, addiction (Fasting from alcohol), and the most common and usual reasons is fasting for weight loss.

Many people believe that fasting heals many disease conditions that allow the body to be ‘detoxified’.  There is no evidence to suggest that the body stores toxins that can be expelled due to fasting.  However fasting can have positive effects on metabolism. 24-48 hours without consuming alcohol are also beneficial to the liver.

Water Fasting tips

From the title itself, water fasting is basically drinking only water (water alone) and no other food or other forms of liquid. An individual can fast from day 1 up to 30 or even 40 days.

This is a very extreme diet and you should not stay on it longer than a few days. People who stay on it longer are risking their health and this diet would never be recommended by a doctor or nutritionist.

An extreme low calorie diet (400-600 calories per day) is a good alternative. Two days on this restricted calorie intake followed by 5 days of normal eating is the basis of the 5:2 diet which has some good evidence of being both a safe and effective diet. There is also some evidence that it helps reverse the early signs of diabetes.

There are some of the tips for water fasting that you might want to know before you begin to engage in water fasting.

  1. One must be mentally prepared. This means that the less pressure you have, the better the results. Don’t abruptly fast say for a month. Try tapering your water fast until your body will get used to not ingesting and eating other substance other than water.
  2. Do not use tap water- Use distilled water instead because there is a possibility of a presence of bacteria.
  3. Have a good rest- since your body lacks fuel for energy due to lack of glucose intake, it is recommended to take some time off and do not over-worked.
  4. Be aware and be careful when feeling dizzy.  Slowly rising from a bed or chair can help to lessen the chances of getting dizzy or having black-outs

Fasting Tips and Tricks

Before fasting either by water fasting or juice fasting or any other ways of fasting, one must be ready and must have the commitment.  Fasting definitely requires committed. Making a decision to fast and sticking to that decision is very important. Here are some of the tips and tricks of fasting that you should be aware of.

In order to have a first start on fasting, one must  get rid and avoid addictive substances such as alcohol, nicotine from cigarettes and caffeine, sugary foods, red meat and poultry products although fruits should be gradually minimized and not to avoid since it can still help in giving nutrients to our body.

On the initial days of fasting, one must be prepared as to how to avoid headache, dizziness and other symptoms by taking a single meal at least once per day.

Other tip is to make use of your time to avoid thinking of food. You could clean the house, or wash the dishes, read a book and take a short walk. This will help clear your mind of the hunger that you might experience during fasting.
